Advanced Studio Practice -
         A 1 Year Programme - David Ryan Studio


Forge your own artistic direction.
This programme is designed for the established artist needing further direction, the serious amateur painter and those who have an irregular studio practice, wanting to make a transition to a new phase of artistic and creative practice.
Suitable for medium levels of ability.

The teaching style is centered on you as an individual.
You’ll receive personal mentoring that challenges and pushes you to discover and form your own art practice or specialization.
Experiment within a framework of self-directed projects, designed to further your conceptual, technical and critical thinking skills and consolidate your learning and develop a body of work at a professional level.

Modeled on a “studio style” of teaching and a strong practical and theory based guide to the formal aspects of art making
and the medium and techniques of painting.
This is an opportunity to become immersed in painting and to develop your unique intuitive skills by moving from projects as guides to identifying individual aims through sourcing images, developing concepts, and bringing a work to completion and its relationship to art history, theory and cultures. Develop the experience of the everyday as visually extraordinary and how to translate this into a clearly defined artwork.

Tutor David Ryan MA. BFA. Grad.Dip.Edu.
David is a traditionally trained full time professional artist with undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Central School of Art, the Victorian College of the Arts and the University of Melbourne. Masters at RMIT University, Melbourne.
A former senior lecturer in art at RMIT University, Melbourne. with over two decades of teaching experience and over 22 solo exhibitions in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Auckland and Nelson including Whitespace Gallery, Auckland, The Suter Art Gallery, Nelson and 10 at the Ray Hughes Gallery, Sydney; and over 33 group exhibitions including National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of NSW, South Australia, West Australia, Tasmania, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, the University Art Museum Brisbane, Port Jackson Press, Melbourne. Whitespace Gallery, Auckland. Auckland Art Fair. Atelierhaus,

To establish a sustained practice this studio course runs for 1 year with  4 x 8 week semesters

Each semester consists of 6 half days and 2 full days
