This workshop will explore the process of monotype and dry-point printmaking.
Monotypes are painterly by nature and are made by drawing or painting on a non-absorbent surface which is then transferred on to paper utilising a press - and as indicated by the name - only one impression can be made, although "ghost printing" the residual ink is common and has qualities worth exploring. We will cover a variety of techniques including dark-field and light-field manners, collage and stencilling. Dry-point is an intaglio method in which a sharp needle is used to scratch a line into a surface. Several of the same print can be made, though through the high pressure of the press only a small edition is possible. This also depends on the material used for the print plate. We will use Mylan as the print plate; an easy to scratch plastic sheet. Oure "needle" will be a sharpened nail. For those with experience and basic tools, bring them along.
